Forgetting those Things
Philippians 3:13 Paul’s success depended on him forgetting all the bad things he had done before he met God. On the road to kill more Christians, the Lord smote him. Paul had in his possession a letter saying he could kill Christians. So when Paul penned the scripture, “but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind,” he was making a choice to forget. He had to forget in order to move on, just like you at this holiday season. You are remembering the past and things that have happened and you are getting depressed and getting yourself in a mess. Paul said, “this ONE THING I DO, FORGETTING THOSE THINGS WHICH ARE BEHIND.” Some things are so bad, not just at the holiday season, but all year long and you just can’t forget. Even your depression meds don’t work for long. Paul made a choice. He made lots of choices, but above all the others, he said, this one thing (I repeat) “ONE thing I DO, FORGETTING THOSE THINGS THAT ARE BEHIND, AND REACHING FORTH UNTO THOSE THINGS THAT ARE BEFORE.” Paul said in Philippians 3:14, “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” I press toward the MARK, the MARK that he had set for himself for better things. He had a higher calling than thinking on the past and about what could have been. A lot of things could have been, but they were not. GO ON! GO ON! Let the past go! Paul had to let the past go. He sat in jail after writing what God gave him to write. His past was what he could think on, but he chose to forget. Then, he was brought before the king and given a chance to speak. He said, “I think myself happy,” (Acts 26:2). Paul could not have been happy had he not chose to forget. No one can make you forget, but you. It does not matter how many times you got drunk at the holidays, messed up everything, and was thrown out of the house. GO ON! GO ON! FORGET the past and begin to live for the future. It is ahead, not behind. It is always easier to reach back because you know what is there. You don’t know what the future holds. The future holds what you are willing to forget. It holds a new year and better things, but you have to make a choice to forget all the things that have happened to you and what you have done. If you do not know Christ today as your personal Savior, just ask Him to come into your heart, and forgive you of your sins and He will do just that.
